Lifestyle: January Sailing in Sydney Harbour

My lovely friend ‘A’ organized a sailing day last weekend. A group of around 30 of her friends (including moi!) met at King Street Wharf – Pier 8, armed with towels, swimmers, sunscreen and food to share. We boarded the small catamaran Catalpa which looked like it was too small for our group from the outside – but in fact, was the perfect size on the inside. People sprawled on the spacious deck (but had to make sure they didn’t sit on the rope which moved when the sails went up – and also avoid getting their white dresses stuck in the pulley… ahem J). They took us around Sydney Harbour which reminded me how lucky I am to be back in this beautiful city.

The view….

J, AM and I sat on the deck in the cool, refreshing wind where we could admire the view and chat.

The sails and the deck…

Views from inside the boat.

The interior of the boat where we parked the food.

We stopped off at a bay for a bbq lunch and swimming.

The bbq on the boat where A’s other half K cooked up a storm.

J, AM and I after lunch.

Socialising during lunch.

Then we headed back to King Street Wharf just before it started to rain….

Lovely organiser ‘A’ trying not to fall as she poses just before we head under the pretty Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Almost under the bridge….

And under the bridge…. now I can say I have been over it and under it!

More amazing views….

It was relaxing and fun with great people, good music and food! A great way to spend a Sunday in January – sailing.
Thanks for organizing and inviting me to join A!!!

You also get your own skipper plus we had a lovely crew member who took a youtube video of us all.
In total, the cost was around $60 with 30 people – not bad!

PS pop some sea sickness tablets before you hit the boat – I normally get sea sick, but this time, the ‘Kwells’ tablets I took helped on the choppy Sydney harbour… I felt a little drowsy but that only added to the light-hearted, happy experience.
