My lovely colleague S swung by my desk a few weeks ago and asked me if I would like to have a glass of wine and some dinner. Of course I said yes! I love cooking at home for myself but dinner with a good friend is also essential to one’s well-being!
That night, I felt like something hearty that I knew would be delicious. So we found ourselves at Fratelli Fresh on Bridge Street. I had already been there a few times before as I love their fresh, honest Italian food and wine. I really liked their pizzas and the tagliatelle with meatballs and fresh tomato sauce was too delicious!
So it was no excuse that I found it difficult to miss this entrance – perhaps we were too engrossed in our conversation! But we finally found it after a little help from google maps..
You walk down the stairs into the basement and are greeted with a spacious, dimly lit restaurant. As we hadn’t made a booking, we sat at the bar in the back. You can also sit at these high tables in the back section near a little grocery aisle. If someone is taking you on a date here, make sure you tell him to book in advance because it’s a bit more romantic in the front. The back section was a bit more ‘happening’ – loud and buzzy!
We started with a delicious glass of red wine while we decided what we wanted from the extensive menu…
S had the seared mulloway fish with tomato, basil, chilli and pearl barley ($29) which she said was light, crispy and tasty…
I had the penne with poached chicken, tomato, ricotta and basil ($22)… it was so creamy and tasty that I ate it all (with a little help from S)….
It was great motivation to drag myself to a 6am body pump session the next morning….
I can’t wait to go back to Fratelli Fresh on Bridge Street – it’s close to my office and the food is so fresh and tasty.
You can go to any of their four retail stores – 7 Danks Street, Waterloo; 81 Macleay Street, Potts Point; Shop 8, 16 Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay and 11 Bridge Street CBD.
