Enough said – breakfast or brunches are the way to start one’s day on a weekend. Here are some of my favourite places for breakfasting in Neutral Bay.
1/12 Waters Rd, Neutral Bay

This is actually a deli with a brunch/lunch menu. Sit inside near the deli counter or outside if there is a table, as seating is less outside. The decor is interesting with pots and pans suspended above the counter, a selection of cookbooks in a bookcase and overseas food products stacked in a large floor to ceiling wooden shelf. The breakfast menu was good with options including eggs with homemade hash browns (which are also sold at the deli). We left with full stomachs and a selection of meats and cheeses for a barbecue later that day.
2. Wild Basket
17 Grosvenor St

This little gem used to have at least one table free for us, although has become very busy recently. The decor includes a gallery wall with interesting pictures in thick white frames, a mix of garden tables and wooden tables with matching chairs and floor to ceiling shelves with lovely, organic, home-grown products. It’s quite the operation with all the cooking, coffee and tea-making, and order-taking conducted from behind the one bench. They are usually fairly efficient but recently we have been a bit disappointed with the waiting times and the quality of the dishes. The last time we went there was in June 2015 and my boyfriend was served an uncooked omelette. I haven’t been back since, but I hope that they determine the reason for their inefficiency and fix it quickly because this really is a delightful little cafe with a homely feel serving (usually) delicious meals, coffee and tea by lovely staff.
3. Paradiso Espresso Bar Cafe Restaurant
4/206 Military Rd

An extensive breakfast menu from plain sourdough toast or muesli to a more adventurous plate of poached eggs with avocado salsa and pancetta. Boyfriend likes the coffee and juice here, while I enjoy a large pot of tea with skim milk. The service is fast and friendly and the location is central with seating inside or outside at large tables on the terrace. Afterwards, pop into Woolies for your weekly grocery shopping or browse the small boutiques along Military Road.
