On a warm, sunny Friday night after work, the boyfriend and I packed a picnic blanket and a hamper with popcorn, Lindt cherry-flavoured dark chocolate and ginger kisses biscuits and trudged 15 minutes uphill to the North Sydney Oval. This is the location for the Sunset Cinemas, an outdoor cinema set up in the middle of the oval. Upon arrival just before the sun set, we were presented with 2 small tubs of Maggie Beer ice cream. There were also plenty of dinner options including Crust pizza and hot dogs. The boyfriend hadn’t eaten dinner so he bought a filling and tasty hot dog for around $6.
That evening, they were screening ‘About Time’. The movie started just after the sun set. We could hear and see everything clearly except when a large vehicle occasionally drove past the oval. However this didn’t bother us, it just added to the experience of watching a movie outside. See the website for movie times. And watch ‘About Time’ – it’s sweet, funny and thought-provoking – I’m sure you will like it.
