Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Cafe in LA

We stayed at the London West Hollywood Hotel during our 3 day layover in LA between Havana and Sydney. So we ended up eating most of our meals at the hotel restaurant, Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Cafe.

This is a casual alternative to Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin-starred fine- dining experience with reasonable prices and a relaxed atmosphere. Located on the ground floor of this sophisticated hotel, Boxwood’s interior is spacious and fitted out with a laid-back but classy ‘So-Cal’ theme with plenty of natural light, spacious light blue leather booth seating, dark wooden tables and gold coloured window shades.

Although Executive Chef Anthony Keene directs the menu and café, I had high expectations for the meals because of the Gordon Ramsay brand. Unsurprisingly, Boxwood Cafe did not disappoint and actually exceeded my expectations. Every dish from the scrambled egg and chorizo tacos for breakfast to miso ramen with pork for lunch, New England lobster rolls for dinner and donut balls with coffee ice cream for dessert were simply delicious.

Fresh ingredients were creatively used in the right proportions and each dish was cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were perfect and just enough to fill you up. Prices here obviously aren’t as cheap as fast food, but dishes aren’t as expensive as a Michelin-starred restaurant and you really do get what you pay for. The service was also excellent, every single time.

Room service (which we treated ourselves to after a long and difficult travel day from Havana to Panama and finally LA) was even classier and so indulgent!

I highly recommend staying at the London West Hollywood and/or a meal at Gordon Ramsay’s cafe.

I really hope Chef Ramsay opens a restaurant in Sydney soon – I would gladly wait in a long queue for Gordon Ramsay’s dishes!
