OzHarvest CEO Cook-Off 2015

It’s hard to believe that in a country as beautiful and developed as Australia, poverty and insecurity still exists. Every year, nearly 2 million Aussies rely on food relief and simultaneously, $8 to $10 million worth of food is wasted.

In light of this, Oz Harvest, created in 2004, is a food rescue organisation which collects surplus food from commercial outlets and distributes to charities free of charge helping many disadvantages and vulnerable Australians.

Each year Oz Harvest hosts a CEO Cookoff to raise awareness of food wastage and homelessness. This year around 40 of Australia’s top Chefs and around 120 CEOs and business leaders cooked a full 3 course meal for 1000 disadvantaged Sydney siders at Carriageworks in Eveleigh.






They started with a range of dips with Brasserie Bread. Mains ranged from Matt Moran’s family lamb recipe to Maggie Beer’s roast chicken and Movida and Miguel Maestre’s paella. ¬†Dessert was Black Star Pastry’s watermelon and strawberry cake with a specially designed Gelato Messina ice cream with Vittoria Coffee.







Overall the event raised around $900,000!

I dropped by this great event for a few hours and felt humbled by it all. It was a reminder to be grateful for the small things like a bed, a roof over my head and a meal on the table and to help those in need.
