Lunch at Foys Kirribilli Restaurant

My boyfriend and I arrived at the Sydney Flying Squadron (which is said to be Australia’s oldest open boat sailing club) just before noon on a summery Saturday. We weren’t going sailing of course (hey I’m still re-learning to swim!). Instead, we were going to have a lazy weekend lunch at the club’s restaurant, Foys Kirribilli, with our friends Mrs Event Birdie, her fab husband and their adorable baby.

The restaurant’s interior is spacious, light-filled and decorated with a nautical theme including blue, black and white furniture.

The walls are decorated with photos of open boat sailing.

Sydney FOYS review

Mrs Event Birdie had made a booking, so we were promptly seated upon arrival at a table by the window where we could admire this view.

After looking through the menu, we ordered a bottle of red wine, bread, share plates and sides.

Soon enough, the wine was poured and we were dipping soft, fresh sourdough bread into balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Next our share plates and sides arrived. We enjoyed crispy roast chicken with cauliflower puree and chimichurri, and a slow roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary aioli. We munched on French fries and seasonal roast vegetables (which was rather carb heavy with a majority of parsnip and potato and minimal pumpkin and no greens) on the side.  The food was so delicious and filling that we didn’t have room for dessert!

The restaurant filled up very quickly with large groups of friends and families so the atmosphere was lively and buzzing. The noise levels quickly increased which actually made it the perfect place to bring a baby. The service was fast, efficient and friendly (although the waitresses might have been super attentive because they were smitten with Mrs Event Birdie’s baby!).

I recommend Foy’s for your next casual but classy luncheon with a group of friends (especially friends with children!). It’s also great place to bring interstate and international visitors because it’s away from the city and main tourist areas, and shows off Sydney’s stunning water views, delicious food and friendly people.
