Brunching at the Incinerator in Willoughby

My boyfriend and I are ‘breakfast people’. We love going out to breakfast on a weekend but prefer to eat dinners at home. Maybe we’re getting old… Or maybe there are just so many amazing breakfast options in Sydney. Or maybe it’s that delightful feeling of leisurely eating breakfast and knowing that you have still have a whole Saturday or Sunday ahead of you to do the things you love.

The Incinerator Willioughby Review

A few months ago, we decided to try the brunch menu at The Incinerator in Willoughby. The café is actually on the ground floor of the old Incinerator which was designed by Walter Burley Griffin (who also designed the lake in my hometown Canberra). You can read more about the history here.

It was very busy at 11.30am but we still managed to find a parking spot outside and a table for two inside. Inside, there were plenty of couples, groups of friends, and families with young children who could run around outside.  So it was a bit noisy for a Sunday morning (but maybe that’s because I’m getting old!).

However, we were impressed with the fast service, the coffee and meals. We ordered two plates to share.

Poached eggs with hot smoked salmon and cucumber with mint and dukkah.

And poached eggs with spiced beans inside corn tortillas topped with sour cream and chipotle hollandaise.

I ended up eating most of the salmon dish which I thought was lighter and cooler, while my boyfriend preferred the Mexican themed dish which I thought was a bit heavier although spicy and delicious.

I also enjoyed a cold pressed watermelon juice and tea while my boyfriend drank coffee.

I really enjoyed my brunch at the Incinerator and would definitely go back. It’s a great place to catch up with a group of girlfriends, a group of friend with babies or your significant other.
