25 Simple Things to be Happier

Happy New Year! I hope 2018 is prosperous and filled with love, laughter and good health.

I’m going in to this year with no expectations.  I want to simply be grateful for each new day, to go with the flow and be ready for whatever life throws at me.

I also want to do the following things to be happier when life (work!) gets so busy that I can’t even breathe…

  1. Wake up earlier (6.25am for me).
  2. Sleep earlier too (10pm!).
  3. Eat healthily – fresh whole foods as close to its natural state as possible.
  4. Meditate – start with 5 minutes a day and work your way up to more.
  5. Exercise – start by walking, then work up to jogging, running and more.
  6. Don’t talk about people behind their back.
  7. Don’t gossip about other people – good or bad.
  8. Do something kind every day.
  9. Call your parents.
  10. Tell your partner you appreciate them.
  11. Send a message to an old friend.
  12. Give donations to a worthy cause.
  13. Write a letter to someone.
  14. Read a book.
  15. Learn a new skill – join a cooking or dance class.
  16. Make a new friend.
  17. Laugh at a joke.  Find a funny YouTube video or read a book that makes you LOL.
  18. Make someone else LOL.
  19. Listen to someone deeply – don’t get distracted by your phone or whatever else.  Listen.
  20. Be thoughtful with your words.
  21. Be generous with your time.
  22. Smile often – people will smile back, even if they don’t want to.
  23. Savor a cup of tea or hot chocolate mindfully without any distractions.
  24. Be happy when others achieve something – even if you wanted that promotion, the boyfriend, the engagement ring or baby just as much as your friend did – be happy for them when they get their moment.
  25. Be interested in what people say.

  1. Love your list! We have a lot of goals in common! 🙂 I have been getting up earlier and going to sleep around 10pm, and it’s been the best thing ever. So much more positive and ready for the day.

Also, gossip can sometimes creep in when you don’t realise. Without setting the intention not to gossip, it can easily be something you end up doing without realising. I think that’s a great reminder to ourselves – to intentionally not gossip.

I have been SO inspired to cook lately, which is a new thing for me – so, I love the thought of going to a cooking class.

Those are just *some* of the things we had in common on our list.. but I could go on and on! 🙂

    Great post lovely!

    1. Hi Joelyne, I’m so glad you like the list! I hope we can keep it up for the next 12 months… Totally agree with gossiping – it’s probably the hardest one for me! Sleeping earlier sounds so simple but helps so much doesn’t it?! I hope you get to a cooking class too!
By the way, I’m also trying to cut out meat and love your vegan Insta stories lately!
Will check out your new blog soon! How exciting!

      1. ❤ Yes please let me know how you go with cutting out meat! At first I cut out beef, because that's my dad's sacred animal, and growing up I didn't eat it, and I had a bad dream about cows being hurt – so that one was easy for me. Then I cut out on all red meats, and was only eating chicken and lamb. Then slowly slowly, ate more and more fish. And here I am 🙂 J xo

      2. Wow, that’s so good of you! At the moment I’m eating a bit of everything still – my partner eats meat so it’s hard to cook separate dinners – but definitely less than before! Thanks for sharing your story, it’s so inspiring 😊💞

  2. Doing simple things really make such huge happiness for most of us, we just don’t realise at times. I so love your list and I’m sure tons could still be added but a great inspiration to start with. I wish to add: stop comparing yourself to others, in every aspect of your life. We are all at different chapters of our lives. Thank you for sharing your tips! Kudos!
