‘Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe’ by Jenny Colgan

I first read ‘Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe’ by Jenny Colgan just after I turned 26 years old.  It was a beautiful gift from a lovely, thoughtful friend whom I had only met months earlier.  I was living in Hong Kong at the time and (sadly) not loving it.  I was at a point in my life when I had just realized that the job and lifestyle there wasn’t suited to me at all, and working out my next move.

This book was just perfect for switching off from all of these stresses and worries.  A light, classic chick-lit read with a lovely, warm tone; loveable characters; a good storyline and delicious cupcake recipes.

In April last year – that is, almost 6 years later – I stumbled upon the sequel ‘Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe’ in the library.  I appreciated this delightful sequel after a very busy month of work and life.  It was a quick and easy read with the same loveable characters (who were so memorable that I remembered each and every one of them from 6 years ago), a lovely storyline set in both the UK and New York, and more delicious recipes.  I couldn’t help enjoying a small (gluten-free, low-sugar) muffin with a giant soup-size mug of tea whilst reading this book.

These are delightful books that are best read with bakery treats and a warm beverage.

Have you read any books by Jenny Colgan?
